What to pack? Discover the main baggage rules in Brazil and abroad

Traveling is synonymous with rest and fun. However, before even leaving home, you need to plan so that nothing gets in the way of this moment. One of the most important steps is preparing the suitcase. This is because nothing can be missing, while excess luggage can be a problem.

When traveling by plane, the concerns are even greater, as some items cannot be taken in hand luggage – the one that goes with the passenger in the cabin. Currently, many people choose to travel with just this suitcase, avoiding the hassle of waiting for checked luggage when they arrive at their destination.

Allowed size and weight
National airlines have standardized the size of hand luggage on all flights, domestic or international. So, currently, passengers can board with a suitcase measuring up to 35 cm long, 20 cm wide and 55 cm high, including handles, pockets and wheels.

The maximum weight is 10 kg – this limit doubled in 2017, when airlines were allowed to charge for checked baggage. Since then, many people prefer to travel with just their luggage to save money and optimize their time.

It is worth remembering that passengers can also take one personal item, such as a shoulder bag or backpack, with a maximum length of 35 cm, 20 cm wide and 45 cm high. Rules change in foreign companies, so it is important to check in advance.

What is allowed in hand luggage
ANAC (National Civil Aviation Agency) is the one who determines what can and cannot be taken on board planes. In addition to clothes and shoes, passengers can carry liquids, creams and similar products, such as shampoo, conditioner and sunscreen, without restrictions in hand luggage on domestic trips.

However, on international flights, the restriction is up to 100 ml per package, limited to ten bottles, that is, 1 liter, per traveler. Typically, airlines make exceptions for medicines and baby foods, but you need to check what the requirements are in advance.

Aerosols in general cannot be transported in the cabin on national flights – on international flights, they are prohibited – and only those for medical or personal use are authorized, such as deodorants, perfumes and shaving foam. The limit is four packages of 300 ml or 300 g per person.

Books, magazines and electronic items are also allowed on board. In fact, all electronic devices with lithium batteries, such as notebooks, cell phones and cameras, must travel with the passenger. This is because they can overheat and jeopardize flight safety if they are dispatched.

What is prohibited in luggage
Sharp or cutting objects, flammable products and firearms are prohibited in luggage. If a person arrives at the airport x-ray with any of these items or excess liquids, they will be forced to throw them in the trash before boarding. So, be careful when packing your suitcase to avoid inconvenience moments before leaving for your long-awaited destination.

Tip: take advantage of hotel amenities
